I need a new GPS
« on: March 26, 2018, 11:38:05 AM »
So I've never bought a new GPS
Had a Garmin Quest and a Zumo 220
Also the BMW Nav. that came on the LT
So I'm thinking about the Zumo 395LM

Anyone have personal experience?

And are prices fixed cuz everywhere it's $399?

I've always found GPS City to be the cheapest. They used to have a discount code on ADV but I don't think they offer it anymore.

I replaced my Zumo 550 with a 390LM.

Pretty decent unit although I wish it had a bigger screen but at the time that was what I could afford.

Love the curvy road option.

Not much price difference at the time from online retailers.

I'm using an 8 year old gps, and have my phone and paper as a backup.  No new GPS for me (yet).
My GPS does not have bluetooth, music, traffic or anything fancy; and I don't miss them.
I use Co-Pilot on my phone.

I have the orig. BMW Nav on my LT.  It's a 2720 or 2730 and is small & flakey.  I have a Zumo 220 on my GS.  I like it but it is also small and old now.

So I'm thinking of a Zumo 396LM.  I can sync my phone to it then control my phone from the GPS and sync that to my Radio/CD on the bike.  Don't wanna actually answer or talk on the phone when I'm riding but I'd like to be able and playback music and voicemails.  Under $500 is a good deal cheap than the infotainment centers on most new bikes.

What's the best of the best, the 595? What does that offer that the 395 doesn't?

Didn't look like much, except a larger screen, at twice the price!

"With the 595LM paired to the Smartphone link app, Garmin takes things a step further by displaying data such as live weather radar and traffic, or text messages and other app notifications on the 595LM’s larger, 5-inch transflective touchscreen display (versus 4.3-inch touchscreen display on the 395LM). Additionally, while both units will allow you to control music or media from a compatible smartphone or MP3 player, the 595LM goes on to enable streaming of music from players like Spotify and Pandora right into a compatible headset or helmet (sold separately)."

I say go for it. My wife has a Zumo 660 and I have the Montana. We don't really have much for complaints. She's the IT guru when it comes to updating and making routes. She complains because the software is a little odd compared to CAD that she uses everyday.

Phone has music and bluetooth, the GPS does not.
A plastic bag works in an emergency, if I have to use the phone.
I have a sena so I can listen to music when on the highway.
