Anybody own a sync kit?
« on: June 27, 2012, 11:01:17 AM »
I'm ready to shell out the cash as my bike at almost 17k REALLY needs it as its never been done! Any of you own one that either doesn't mind me going there to get it down or borrow one? Its for a 4 cylinder bike in case that matters!  ;)

I should have a set of sticks but I don't yet. Jerry may have some but I don't know for sure.

Well I will order the more accurate dial gauges if I don't find anybody soon and you guys are free to use them as long as you don't break them! ;)

I'm a two cylinder FI guy, but you could check the "make your own manometer balance" articles on the web.

Who says the gauge type are more accurate? Some of those gauges can bounce around a lot. I've used the mercury stick type with great success. Too bad you can't get them anymore.

Thank you Sal, what kind is it? I'm afraid of using the Mercury kinds that can get sucked into the motor ie another reason I wanted to get the dial ones!  :o

You'll never suck the mercury up unless you're rapping the throttle which you don't need to do to balance carbs. The mercury stays steady in the tubes if you just adjust at idle.

Taz, Motion Pro, no mercury. Like Jeff says used properly no problem! I'm not a fan of the gauges (had a set gave them away)

I read horror stories of people turning on their bikes and it sucking in the fluid so I got a bit paranoid about it!  :-\ I'd like to pick them up whenever I can use them as currently its suppose to be in the 90s this weekend not sure if I'm going to want to be near more heat turning tiny screws so that way I don't borrow it from you and keep it till gawd only knows when! lol

Just get a Motion Pro like Sals, you'll have it forever. I'll probably pick one up too.

How do you like it Sal? Is it steady and consistent?

Works as good as my old mercury stick, has a blue liquid easy to see, very stable and encased in plastic, the old one had the tubes exposed. It's a couple of years old, i use it 2-3 times a week it's held up well.

2-3 times a week?! Are you just very picky about your carb sync? ;)
