Title: 2018, back to the Dragon
Post by: barrypz on May 12, 2017, 10:40:07 PM
Looking ahead to 2018, perhaps back to Deal's Gap.  Thinking around 2nd week of May, probably 3 ish days of transit each way and 3 ish days riding the area.  Better restaurant choices for sure.

Probably, too far out for him to schedule anything.  He is leaving for Brazil this weekend for work. Lucky SOB, he has traveled more as an accountant then he did as Marine.

We'll leave Friday, let me look at it a bit and see if it is end of day Saturday or early Sunday.  I know what it would be riding alone, but average mph slows with a group.

1020 miles, straight all highway.  Last time we arrived on Sunday.

Last time = 3 days down, 3 there, 3 days back

Weather wise, I'm not sure the week makes the difference.  I'm still waiting to see what they scheudle me for at work, but I'll override it for this week regardless.
We'll be beyond the capacity of the SENA 10s, since Karen and Gary also have them.

The 4th thru the 13th most likely works best for me.

I know youíve heard it before....but work has now really become more of an issue. I have a bunch of stuff scheduled for spring and summer but our company itself is struggling. Weíre going to 3 or 4 day weeks for the winter unless one has billable time to support additional days. My spring may be adjusting myself to something new.

Day 1 - a good amount of highway.

Excellent. I looked quickly for the 30k dual pack and it is running around $425 on ebay with a 30day return through the vendor (https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-Sena-30K-Mesh-Dual-Pack-Motorcycle-Helmet-Headset-Intercom-Bluetooth-System/202107350357?epid=2192806490&hash=item2f0e896d55:g:z4UAAOSw0wRZ9Pks&vxp=mtr) and the warranty through SENA.

The same vendor is selling the 20S Dual pack for the same price (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC1.A0.H0.Xsena+20s+dual+pack.TRS0&_nkw=sena+20s+dual+pack&_sacat=0).

There is no pairing in public mesh, you set up the unit, and can speak to anybody around you with a 30k in public mesh.  You can switch to private and stay with just your group, up to 16 people, or you can go to bluetooth, limit 4 people.

Some of the US roads are almost highway like, I would consider some smaller parallel roads.

Volume dial smoother
Speaker extensions and pads bring closer to ear, probably resulting in clarity experienced
Like the removal process of the unit better then the s10
Appears to charge vary rapidly

Good luck. I had a nightmare of a time mounting the 10 on an RF1100. I had to trim some of the rubber along the bottom of the helmet and custom bend the metal clamp of the Sena mount.

Doing some research it appears they only use a stick on mount now? Maybe that'll make install easier? Also, don't read reviews... I'm thinking I'll wait a while to upgrade.

I had the S10 mounted on my shoei rf1100 with no issue, no trimming, no bending.
The clamping device that I used for the s30 is very similar to the S10 with no issue mounting on my rf1100.

On a side note, took out the helmet liner out and hand washed.....boy, did the grime wash out of that,

Not gonna change the day 3 route, riding down there is just too good.  I did check motomaps though and they suggest:
16
603
us 58
133
91us 19e
BRP
us 19
us 74
us 129

I was not thrilled by my latest battery powered jacket.  The Milwaukee works well, but the charger is massive, more a home effort.  I dug out my old wired vest, put a new controller on it, and will test it in the next month or so to see if I need to replace it.

I'm ok with stopping when we are tired and finding a place.  I'll go with the majority though.

We should get a show of hands then.  Who wants to book, I'll say that if we get 2 (and Glenn is already one), we book rooms.  Else we trust we can find 4 together.

I'm still deciding if i want to toss a duffel or dry bag on for extra capacity.  I suspect I could fit everything in the bike luggage since my suit is waterproof, so I get back the side case that usually has rain gear in it.
I bought a waterproof high vis riding suit, jacket and pants, for last year's adventure.  It was the one i tried on at cycle gear the year before.

While it did well in the waterproof department, it did rip and break in several other areas over 10 days, so I spent the winter doing repairs to it, and maybe they will do better.  The repairs included the use of 2 tubes of silicon rtv to ensure I stayed waterproof.
