Man that FJ-09 sounds niiiiice! :O But 38 mpg out of a 847!? I get 38-44 on my 1255 and that is in the current "stock" stage! Maybe they have a banana stuck in the muffler or "fun" mode on most of the time!? ;)

The 2014 fuel map was awful.  Yamaha says they have gotten that number to 44.  Still depends on how you ride it.

True for any bike.  I get between 42 to 50 on the FJR (1299cc).

I've gotten up to 50 in the mountains down south how idk. I think it may have to do with the cleaner more "freedom" air and gas! ;)

Not so much that asd the press has been very hot on this bike.  They did have 2 at the show, one stock, one kitted out all the way.  In terms of bang for the buck, it is hard to beat.
I was at the Honda shop yesterday for snow blower parts, I asked what was available as factory options for the CBR650F.  The answer was "nothing".  Yamaha said all their stuff was available as of the release of the bike.
I really liked the new street oriented Tigers too.

Based on my read.....I'm betting that this becomes one of those bikes that is low on maintenance and just keeps delivering. A faired version would knock it out of the park for yamaha!

yes, but if you noticed, they said that the bike they received was direct from the factory and set up soft for highways while at the original press ride, the bike was set up by onsite personnel for something a bit more rigorist. So....what I'm hearing is that there is options within the settings, maybe not perfect for all but something that you can start to play with.

I looked at the Yamaha super tenere in 2010 when shopping for a new bike but it was very heavy, it was at the CT Expo motorcycle show, i also sat on a Ducati Multistrada but it was even taller then my Tiger, i liked it alot but the dealer said a lowering kit would run me $1500 on top of an extremely high priced motorcycle, so i went with the Tiger. 5 years later and everyone is making a standard style bike. I wish i had all these choices back then, i might be riding one of the Yamaha models instead.

I have always thought that the FZ6R would be a good lightweight sport touring bike. There are a number of guys on ADV that tour on it and say that it's actually quite comfortable and gets decent mileage. If I were to downsize even further, I would consider one!

Yamaha is the FJR, considered middle sport-tourer
Kawasaki is the Concourse, considered the SPORT-tourer
Honda is the ST1300 (did not import any for 2014 and 2015, still available in Europe), considered the sport-TOURER
BMW is the 1150 variants - considered just dang expensive

Honda is the ST1300 (did not import any for 2014 and 2015, still available in Europe), considered the sport-TOURER
BMW is the 1150 variants - considered just dang expensive

Is the fjr the only "true" sport tourer out there?
I don't think honda is building the ST anymore, Suzuki doesn't build one, moto guzzi has the Norge & Stelvio, triumph has the Sprint. That's all I can think of!

fixed it for you..

For the previous question about "Sport-Tourers" at the end of this article is nice comparison table.

Yamaha is the FJR, considered middle sport-tourer
Kawasaki is the Concourse, considered the SPORT-tourer
Honda is the ST1300 (did not import any for 2014 and 2015, still available in Europe), considered the sport-TOURER
BMW is the 1150 variants - considered just dang expensive

BMW hasn't made the 1150 in over a decade. It's a 1200 boxer or 1600 six. Yup expensive. The 1150 RT is the last beautiful touring BMW I. M. O.

There is a guy who retro fits Harleys a a leaning 2 + 1 = three wheeler, too.
