Maybe just a bit embarrassing.
http://wtnh.com/2014/12/06/police-car-into-river-after-chase/ (http://wtnh.com/2014/12/06/police-car-into-river-after-chase/)

SEYMOUR, Conn. (WTNH)– A Seymour police car went into Bladens River after a chase Saturday afternoon.

Police say they were investigating an accident at Route 67 and Day Street when officers learned one person involved had a family violence arrest warrant for assault. The wanted suspect fled on foot and was chased by police on foot and in vehicles.

According to police, an officer in a vehicle came to a dead-end and reversed his cruiser to continue the chase, but slid down an embankment and into the river. The police cruiser was submerged in six feet of water and is considered a total loss, police say. The officer driving the cruiser was not injured.

The suspect police were chasing got away, but they know his identity.

"Other bills under consideration by the legislature would require the registration of all scooters (models of 49cc and less are currently exempt); up the penalty for texting while driving; make state land available for ATV use; and allow the use of electronic insurance cards."

This Second World War soldier in regulation dress and his military-issue 1945 Harley Davidson WLC motorcycle found their way yesterday to the Sault Ste. Marie Museum.

In all, five bikes were rolled into the museum's main gallery space this week, in preparation for Revving Up For Summer: a special display of vintage motorcycles that will open February 10.

Approximately nine other bikes will be added in the week to come.

The exhibit will run until April 25.

Visitors will be able to view a 1940 Indian, 1943 and 1945 Harleys, a pre-1948 Whizzer, a 1972 Kawasaki Triple, and a 1976 Triumph, as well as displays of riding gear, manuals, posters, ads, motorcycle engines and parts.

The museum is located at 690 Queen Street East.

For more information, please call (705)-759-7278 or email saultmuseum@gmail.com

I was scratching my head on this model ... until I got to the end of the sentence.  The "C" must be for "Canada."  The U.S. Army Harley was the WLA.   The WLC speedo reads kph, maybe?

Zero Motorcycles, suddenly dwarfed, responds with some bigger numbers (http://www.latimes.com/business/autos/la-fi-hy-electric-motorcycle-20150307-story.html)

This time last year, Zero Motorcycles could comfortably claim to be the world's leading electric motorcycle maker. Then Harley-Davidson unveiled its electric LiveWire concept bike, and Polaris Industries acquired Brammo Motorcycles, positioning itself to match Harley.  The suddenly dwarfed California bikemaker responded by upping its game. Nestled in the redwoods halfway between Santa Cruz and Silicon Valley, Zero has doubled its staff from about 60 to about 130, added VPs of marketing and quality, and doubled its production capacity.

Ugh. Dropping a brand new bike.

I'll say my transition to a 'big' boy bike wasn't the smoothest, mostly due to not having ridden for 3 years. Took me a couple days until I was smooth with the clutch and throttle again. I'm sure the vastly different throttle response didn't help.

But I didn't drop it. Yet.

A soft sand bank works just as well.

The shop called today to tell me my new bike was ready.  I called to check before going over and said "really"?  They said "no".  Honda had sent the wrong lockset for my panniers, so they are being overnighted and I should have the bike Wednesday.  Crossing my fingers.

Compare it with the $9,099 Triumph Scrambler, the $10,399 Honda CB1100, and Royal Enfield's $5,999 Continental GT—and then realize how much more stylish and more powerful it is than all of them. $8,495 Source: Ducati via Bloomberg

Did I miss it in the article.....they didn't talk price point?
Some of the comments were interesting in regard to the bell helmets fitting round heads. I just find that the shape of the Shoei fixes me best.

I posted in Triumph forum also, someone said they found the price of the pro star $1200-$1400, my new aria was $548.99 and that was painfull enough, lol. Maybe if i was a racetrack rat who was doing triple digits constantly but for the street that seems pretty steep of a price. Cool looking helmets and i like the faceshield push button. Hopefully when i need a new lid in 7years, these features will be standard and also pinlock because my helmet is so tight that it fogs up if the temps are below 60°, no fogging today though!!!

The comments are the best part.

Before deciding on the Guzzi i wanted to check out other bikes, so  I went to the local HD dealer in Branford to check out the Street 750 and had a hell of a time trying to find one to look at.

One 500 and one 750 buried over by the clothing racks well away from main bike area. Sales not interested in discussing the smaller bikes only the big crusiers and trikes.

Sort of treating these smaller Harleys like they did the Buells.

don't know if anything has changed since I was there.

H-D knows it has to change.  I'm not  sure it knows how though.  The 500 and 750 were a weak start.  Talking to Erik Buell, or Rotax about a new engine would be a good start.

I hope this means good things for Cycle Gear and not bad things for Revzilla. I'm not sure what CG is going to gain because I'm sure they have the ability to stock all the same stuff RVA does. Just because they buy up one great online store doesn't mean there aren't more out there. I'm definitely not giving up my Klim, Shoei or Arai brands just because RVA got bought out. You won't see me in Bilt gear because of it.

I think there may be a difference in feelings between Buells and EBR. You seldom see a used early Buell up for sale!
Always thought that the EBR's were a pricey ticket at 16 to 20k but I could be wrong on the prices.4

I bet you still see the bikes.  They will be called "Yamahas".

YAMAHA: Established, well-known, highly-respected brand known for high-quality, well-designed motorcyces (and other products) sold at attractive prices.

STAR: Dopey, new, nondescript, meaningless name that sounds like a good new brand for low-cost canned tuna.

"OK, fellows, let's re-brand these Yamaha motorcycles as 'Stars.'  That should increase US sales tremendously!  All those chauvinists who disdain Japanese cruisers will drop their American-made brands and head to the Yamaha showroom to buy a Japanese cruiser if we call it 'Star.'"

The stupidity of Yamaha's U.S. marketing operation is striking.  They've given up at last on their bizarre "Star" brand-name--and not a moment too soon.  But I see they're still shovelling the "crossplane" B.S. about their 120-degree 3-cylinder engines!  First it was "crossplane."  Then when too many eyebrows were raised it became "crossplane technology."  Now it's "crossplane concept."

Note that I'm not knocking Yamaha's motorcycles--just calling their Marketing department on their unending bulls**t.  Personally, I feel sorry for the company's engineers--having to suffer in silence the crap from the high-paid Marketing boys.

BTW, I've owned two Yamaha motorcycles in the past, and I've thought highly of both of them.

Shark Cycle in Stafford has lost all their franchises. No more Victory, Polaris or Arctic Cat. They claim they're going to sell used bikes or possibly try and get Suzuki and Yamaha in there.

Also Chaplin Kawasaki recently closed their doors.

While we're at it all Triumph dealers should care Ducati, Aprilia and Guzzi, too!

Yet another helmet mandate has been introduced in the Connecticut House of Representatives. H.B. 7055 would require all riders to wear a helmet while operating a motorcycle. This comes in addition to the two bills, H.B. 6048 and H.B. 6281, which would also require all riders to wear a helmet while operating a motorcycle or motor scooter.

I would love to have an ipad or iphone plus as my dash, with a good mapping GPS app.  But, I need all the maps installed so I'm off-line.

Also, the iPhones touch screen is not glove friendly like a Garmin.  So, you'd need texting gloves.
Title: Re: News

My guess would be that if phones were generally incorporated, then gloves would change, or you could have a stylus on a string.  A phone is pretty small though relative to my dash and a gps  combined.  They could go multi function, but even now I need the manual to find half the functions on my display.

Even Harley-Davidson Can’t Resist the Tug of Overseas Factories

HONG KONG — President Trump has held up Harley-Davidson as a pillar of American manufacturing.

“We’re proud of you! Made in America, Harley-Davidson,” Mr. Trump said to the company’s leather-clad top executives in February as five of its motorcycles rumbled on the White House lawn.
FULL - President Donald Trump Greets Harley Davidson at the White House HD Video by LIVE SATELLITE NEWS

But even as he praised Harley-Davidson’s all-American credentials, the company was busily building a new plant — in Thailand.

Harley-Davidson, an icon of American style and know-how, serves as a strong example of the nuanced economic realities that are pushing American companies to lay off workers at home and set up new factories overseas. Unions representing its workers accuse the company of cutting American jobs to hire lower-paid foreign workers. Yet global trade barriers and proximity to a growing base of new customers also play roles, complexities inherent in Mr. Trump’s ambition to overhaul trade policy.

Motorcycles made in the new factory — plans for which had not been previously disclosed — will be sold in Asia, not the United States, which its domestic plants will continue to serve, Harley-Davidson said.

“This is absolutely not about taking jobs out of the United States,” said Marc D. McAllister, a managing director of international sales at Harley-Davidson based in Singapore. “This is about growing our business in Asia.”

Still, unions representing its workers in the United States are not pleased.

“Why couldn’t we build them in the U.S. and export them?” asked Leo W. Gerard, the international president of the United Steelworkers, which represents Harley-Davidson workers at plants in Wisconsin and Missouri. He expressed concern that the company could be entering a “race to the bottom” in pursuit of lower labor costs.

The East Haven Police Department says they suggest motorcyclists to do the following to ensure they stay as safe as possible while out riding:

Attend a motorcycle rider safety course.
Possess a valid driver’s license with motorcycle endorsement.
Wear protective gear including eye protection, helmets and high visibility/ protective clothing.
Operate motorcycles that are appropriate to their degree of skill.
    Ride sober.
    Be a defensive driver.
    Follow all traffic laws.
Pay close attention to the vehicles around them, especially at intersections where a lot of motorcycle accidents occur.

Right!!

So motorists can continue to drive drunk, distracted, etc, etc.

I think it's because East Haven has had A LOT of MC crashes lately that where inexperienced, unlicensed, drunk or riding like a-holes.

That said they have never really enforced motor vehicle laws down there!

I firmly stand with East Haven Police Department on their decision to attend a motorcycle rider safety course. I think it is essential for newbies especially in the case of any accident or mishap, the life of motorcyclist is not only at risk, but you can harm others' experience as well. In my opinion, Police should also force riders to use safe and high tech helmets to increase their safety at roads.

As a rider, I am also using one of the best Bluetooth helmets and always recommend to my son to wear it before having a bike ride.

https://10hightech.com/best-bluetooth-motorcycle-helmet/

Secondly, we should keep our kids away from underage riding and overspeeding as well.

Connecticut lawmakers considering mandatory helmet law

Published February 23. 2019 5:56PM

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut lawmakers are considering whether to require motorcycle drivers to wear helmets, as in previous legislative sessions.

But this year, the concept is among a host of recommendations from a public safety transition group that's been advising newly elected Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont.

The Public Health Committee has scheduled a public hearing on Monday regarding two bills that would impose mandatory helmet use. One proposal would require helmets be worn by motorcycle operators and passengers under age 21. The other bill would require all motorcycle operators and passengers to wear protective headgear. Currently, anyone 17 and younger must wear a helmet.

"The scientific evidence of the protective impact of motorcycle helmets is consistent and convincing," said Garry Lapidus, director of the Injury Prevention Center of Connecticut Children's Medical, in written testimony submitted to the committee in advance of Monday's hearing. Lapidus is a member of Lamont's advisory group.

Besides instituting a universal helmet law, the second bill would also require anyone riding in the back seat of a vehicle to wear a seatbelt. It's a concept that was also recommended for Lamont to consider.

Julie Peters, executive director of the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut, said helmet laws save both lives and money. In written testimony, she said the annual cost related to motorcycle crashes in Connecticut is estimated at $157.2 million annually.

"Riders without helmets have higher health care costs as a result of their crash injuries," she wrote. "So the financial burden for the treatment and care of those who survive a motorcycle crash is then placed on the government and taxpayers."

But motorcycle enthusiasts are already registering their opposition to the legislation.

Darryl Steding of Stafford wrote to the committee ahead of the public hearing. While he said he wears a helmet, he doesn't believe protective headgear should be required.

"There are many different helmets that provide different levels of protection and I would like to make my own choice of what to wear or not to wear," he wrote.

Until 1976, Connecticut had required anyone riding on a motorcycle, including passengers, to wear an approved protective helmet. After that law was repealed, there were no helmet requirements from 1976 until 1989, when the General Assembly enacted a "partial" helmet law that requires anyone under age 18 to wear an approved helmet, according to the Office of Legislative Research. The law also requires applicants seeking a motorcycle license to wear a helmet while on a training permit.

Personally, I think if you don't wear a seatbelt or a helmet you're being stupid.  But, I don't think the government should require either.  That said if the government already requires you to wear a seatbelt they should also require you to wear a helmet.  Not to mention all the riders who wear "novelty" helmets, either cruiser guys or hipsters.

HARTFORD, CT – Members of the motorcycle riding community who advocate for choice when it comes to helmet usage can once again breath easy. The Transportation Committee at the Connecticut General Assembly removed a provision from a bill that would have made universal head protection mandatory before voting the bill out of committee.

In a 28-8 vote Wednesday, the committee voted in favor of  substitute version of H.B. 7140 that failed to contain any reference to helmet use, a victory for those who proclaim “Let Those Who Ride Decide” and for the Connecticut Motorcycle Riders Association, which has opposed helmet legislation for decades.

However, also getting voted out of committee on a 30-6 vote was H.B. 6161, which would require all riders under 21 years of age to wear a helmet. That bill, which wasn’t opposed by the C.M.R.A., now goes to the House for consideration. Under current law only riders under 18 must wear a helmet.

Well that's funny.  Something that used to be common and now is almost unheard of is ruled unconstitutional. Can I get my money back, with interest, from those tickets I paid in the 70's & 80's?  Probably the only places still doing this are quiet summer beach towns with a hand full of part time seasonal officers.
