This one looks like it would cover a quite a few situations.
I'm amazed at how dirty my high viz looks after just a year.  The black Kilimanjaro never looked dirty at all.
Title: Re: Gear
Post by: Mossyrocks on December 02, 2014, 05:47:58 PM
That's why I am looking for a new 3/4 length jacket. This seems cheap enough, if I upgrade the armor, to throw out when I can't clean it anymore.  My hi-viz Kilimanjaro is quite dirty, even after several washes.

New jacket to replace the Kilimanjaro.  Went to Cyclegear to chck out the Bilt Storm ($159), but ended up with a Sedici (another house brand).  The Bilt has a 5 year warranty and the Sedici has a lifetime. I like the fit and finish, nt bad for $129 on clearance. The brownish threads are not really that predominate in person.

Not too often the price is "free".

Android
Here Beta

Our Favorite Android, iOS, and Windows Phone Apps of the Week

Google Maps is good. Very, very good. But some change can be a good thing, and Here Beta, a longtime exclusive for Windows Phone, officially launched for Android after a trial period on Samsung devices (you could also sideload the app for the past month). Nokia's Here Maps has tried to cross the platform divide before and this is a MUCH more successful attempt. Unfortunately, if you're currently slinging an iPhone, you'll have to wait until spring to see what Here Maps is all about.

In many ways, Here Beta is comparable to Google Maps. Both offer solid turn-by-turn directions, up-to-date traffic and public transit info, all packaged in pretty great design. Google offers further suggestions for bike routes and has a well-integrated nearby search function whereas Here Maps has wonderful offline maps and speed limit warnings if you happen to have a lead foot. Each have their own strengths, and for free, there is no reason to not give Here Beta a test drive. Like, literally get into a car and give it a test drive. [Free]

Thanks! I will check out the Here Beta! The offline maps will be a biggy compared to greedy Google! No reception = no maps is a problem! I tried that other one Mapdroyd I think it was and it ran SLOOOOW. But I guess its more DS rider friendly since it does off the beaten path! ;)

You have to wind the stupid things.  Neither of them is running right now, easier that way.

The helmet did come with a warning that it would fade in the sun, and to cover it when possible.  I will have to start riding with a bag over my head apparently.

I like the BikeBox24. That would be awesome if I didn't have a garage. I used to have a CycleShell a couple of years ago. It was pretty good, until I hit it with my car.  :-[ D'oh! Then one of the poles was broken and it had a couple of small tears in it. But a little patching and it still worked. I think it was a good investment.

I don't accept their premise.  Nothing stops me from buying an ECE helmet, and they are out there, and, in fact, I buy to the Snell rating.  The price goes up, but so does the quality and standard.  There is a reason Shoei and Arai cost more, and people are willing to pay that.

So who has ridden with a Kilimanjaro jacket in a long driving rain and not gotten wet? I'm sick of dealing with rain gear but I don't trust my coat enough to wear it without rain gear. I could try the Nikwax but I'm still not sure I trust that when I'm a thousand miles from home.

I'm contemplating getting a Klim jacket but if I could make my current jacket waterproof I'd be happy. I'm just not sure anything without Goretex can be made fully waterproof.
Title: Re: Gear
Post by: barrypz on June 14, 2015, 02:36:15 PM
I got about 8 years out of my killamanjaro.  I'd hit it with silicone before trusting it on a trip, but by the end, a long driving rain would punch through the sleeves.  There are better products out there now for restoring the waterproof.  I never washed the thing, and I bet that helps keep it waterproof.
I'm on my third year with the one I bought at the NY show, so far, that still holds out the water.

I have a 5 year old hi-viz Kili.  After 3 years it was getting quire dingy so I washed in the washing machine with laundry soap.  After it dried I applied the nikwax. While I never saw any heavy rain (unless under a rain suit) it has not had any problems with moderate rain. I have washed and nikwaxed each of the last two years with no problems.

I really thought my coat was newer than a 2009. The Hi Viz is pretty faded at this point. Are you washing it in a front load washer? I only have an old school top loader and I don't think that will do the coat much good.

You know....your right.....for an extra $1.00 we could give him the high spray wax job. Might be enough time to double or triple coat him !

I really thought my coat was newer than a 2009. The Hi Viz is pretty faded at this point. Are you washing it in a front load washer? I only have an old school top loader and I don't think that will do the coat much good.

I use my top load washer on delicate.  I also pretreated the front using a brush and the laundry soap.  This year I did the dawn+peroxide, if you do this DO NOT USE THE WASHER. (damhik)  I think it came out cleaner.

This has a lot more potential than the simple "carry-on" case.  Thinks of all the sales people who want to ride to the sales, or teachers carrying books and assignments.

Copied from the FJRForum:

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Whitehorse Gear in Conway NH is closing for good later this Spring. Personal decision by owners. While not the lowest cost supplier of MC stuff, they had good stock and knowledgeable staff. Tax free NH location helped too. While I never bought a ton of stuff there, I almost always stopped by for a wander through the warehouse whenever I was in the area. I will miss the place.  (Email below.)

It's Been a Great Ride!
Since Judy and I founded Whitehorse in 1989, we have had the privilege of serving hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists, helping them find the best information and equipment to make their riding more comfortable and fun. We've had a wonderful experience, filled with friendship and adventure stretching from those early days before cell phones and the Internet. And while the essentials of two-wheeled travel have really changed very little over the years, enthusiasm for things like dual-sport riding, metric cruisers, and even heated gear has woven its way into the motorcycling mainstream -- and we've greatly enjoyed being a part of it all.
It is with mixed feelings then that we have reached a decision to close our Warehouse Store in Conway later this spring and retire from day-to-day business to spend more time enjoying the sort of life that drew us all together in the first place.
So what does this mean for you? For the next couple of months we'll be offering some outstanding values on our remaining inventory, just in time for you to get well geared up for the riding season ahead. As always, we intend to give you the same great customer service of which we have long been proud. And while the best deals will be found early among our discontinued merchandise, we are willing to special order any items we can for you. Unredeemed gift certificates will, of course, be honored in whatever manner best suits your needs. Give us a call.
Keep an eye out for upcoming marketing emails giving you first crack at the savings. If you happen to be in the area, stop by and give us a chance to help you find what you're looking for, and let us thank you personally for the many years we've shared the road.

About the Shad SH58x top case......
1. The box is not yet actually available per Shad USA, they don't know when it will be able to be shipped.
2. Shad USA does not know the size (width depth height)
3. When I "chatted" on-line with them they kept giving me the various liter sizes, not physical size
4. $50+ for shipping
While I have been looking at this particular model, I've given up after the circus type discussion on-line with shad. Oh, I did call them directly, got the same on-line guy and had the same go around about the physical size....couldn't tell me.

It has padding (not much) built into the shoulders, sleeves and back.  I slid down the road in it and it held up very well, just cosmetic.

I just got one from Dick's.  They had two sizes - one 30 in. wide (HUGE) and the other 24 in.  Not perfect for riding but half the price of the ones sold by Twisted, Aerostich, etc.  You can get them even cheaper at Jet.com

It's a Mesh shirt with built in armor and snug straps on the sides and arms.
I know these things are a compromise but for those days I take off my jacket and ride dirt roads.
These things are on close-out all over the web if you can find your size.

Yeah!  And the humidity is like 100%

Got it yesterday.  Seems well made.  The one thing I wasn't prepared for is how much it weighs after it's soaked in water.
Plus gravity draws the water down to your waist.  I'm sure the top will dry out first and the top of my pants will get wet.

Mark,

Well, better the top of your pants gets wet vs the seat or the bottom of your pants...people might thing you forgot your Depends!!  :naughty: :naughty:

I seem to be pretty cool wearing my first Gear mesh jacket and something similar to Cycle Gear's Heat out long sleeve top that I got from Under Armor.

Anyone looking to buy a new Shoei Neotec 2?  Saw this on another forum.

I got my Shoei Neotec II from Jeff at HelmetCountry. Perfect fit. I got mine fast in 2 days and he has a group buy for ADV Riders at 550.00 with Free Shipping and 625.00 on the graphics. If anyone is interested in a Shoei Neotec II or another helmet give him a call. Excellent Service Just mention ADV Rider Forum. His Number is (585) 287-5540.
